Closed list of Police officers whose names appear in the document purporting to be a list of persons in receipt of hush money, the receipt of which was found by the Captain Superintendent of Police in the possession of Sham Yin, the man employed as accountant in the Wa Lane Gambling house, under the circumstances already reported.
The cases of the 180 officers in question differ from those of Inspectors Stanton, Quincey, and Baker, and Sergeant Holt, reported in my despatch No. 190 of the 7th ultimo, in that they could not be held directly responsible for the suppression of gambling in this particular district, and could not therefore be similarly dealt with for neglect of duty under section 24 of Ordinance No. 14 of 1887.
